Final closing event for the project “Strengthening the administrative capacities of the Energy Department in the Ministry of Economy and the Energy Agency”

The final project closing ceremony of the project “Strengthening the administrative capacities of the Energy Department in the Ministry of Economy and the Energy Agency” was held on Thursday, 13th of August, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holiday Inn Hotel, located on “Mosa Pijade” 2, Skopje.

At the event, addresses were delivered by Mr. Bekim Neziri – Minister of Economy, Mr. Martin Klaucke – Head of Cooperation, Delegation of the European Union, and Mrs. Gordana Jurukovska – Project Director, ATC Consultants.
The Project Director, Mrs. Gordana Jurukovska presented project outputs and achieved results.

The EU-funded project aimed to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Energy Department of the Ministry of Economy and the Energy Agency, for developing, monitoring and evaluating the energy sector reforms necessary for alignment with the energy acquis and other relevant EU obligations.

The project lasted for 24 months and produced the new draft of the Energy Law and the Law on Biofuels, as well as various strategic documents important for the further development of the energy sector, guidelines for potential investors and reports regarding the obligations of Macedonia towards the Energy Community Secretariat. Analysis of the available capacity of ED and EA was carried out and numerous training sessions were oganised along with study visits to EU member states for facilitating the transfer of expertise and getting familiar with models of best practices existing. The capacities of the Energy Department and Energy Agency were enhanced to enable them to operate in a more efficient way, to provide for increased alignment with the acquis under the Energy Community Treaty and the EU energy acquis and to ensure stable legal and regulatory framework and higher potential for investments in the energy sector.

The project was funded by the European Union, with a total budget of 1.6 million EUR out of which 10% national co-financing. The EU-project commenced in August 2013 and lasted until August 2015.
